A dialogue meeting was held at the headquarters of the General Union of Charitable Societies in the capital to discuss the draft of the new Associations Law for 2025.
The President of the General Union of Charitable Societies, Amer Al-Khawaldeh, emphasized the importance of this meeting in opening channels of dialogue with unions and associations and listening directly to their opinions and suggestions regarding the draft law. He added that it represents an important step towards strengthening the genuine partnership between the public and charitable sectors.
He indicated that the General Union will continue its role in representing the voice of associations and defending their interests, thus enabling them to fulfill their humanitarian and social mission to the fullest extent.
The Secretary-General of the Associations Registry, Nasser Al-Shuraideh, stated that the meeting comes within the framework of the communication and consultation approach adopted by the Associations Registry with its partners in the charitable sector. The aim is to listen to their opinions and observations on the draft law and to discuss the most prominent proposed amendments that would enhance the work of associations and strengthen their role in serving the community.
Al-Shuraideh reviewed the most prominent features of the draft law and the objectives it seeks to achieve, which revolve around developing the environment for charitable work, strengthening the principles of governance, transparency, and accountability, in addition to simplifying procedures and facilitating the work of associations in line with modern administrative and organizational developments.
Al-Shuraideh pointed out that the new law is the result of extensive consultations with various stakeholders. He emphasized that the Associations Registry welcomes all constructive observations that contribute to developing the legal texts in a way that serves the interests of both associations and the local community. He added that field visits will be organized to meet with the heads of federations in the governorates.
During a meeting attended by several members of the Capital Union's administrative board, the Vice President of the General Union and Head of the Capital Union, Dr. Barakat Barakat, expressed his gratitude to the General Union of Charitable Societies, represented by its President, Mr. Khawaldeh, for its ongoing efforts and continuous cooperation with various institutions to serve the charitable sector in Jordan, a land of generosity and humanitarianism. He emphasized that this fruitful cooperation between the General Union and the Registry of Societies serves as a model of institutional integration and joint national action.
He pointed to the importance of considering the proposals for the draft law, which has become an urgent necessity for developing the environment for charitable work and enabling societies to effectively support their target groups. He explained that some current provisions need revision to keep pace with economic and social changes, in addition to facilitating administrative procedures, enhancing governance, transparency, and accountability, and ensuring the proper use of financial resources, thus contributing to building public trust in civil and charitable organizations.
It is worth noting that similar meetings will be held in the governorates to gather feedback and suggestions related to the law.
