The President of the General Union of Charitable Societies, Amer Al-Khawaldeh, sponsored the closing ceremony of the Third National Specialized Environmental Conference, organized by the Jordanian Environment Society under the theme: “The Impact of PET Plastic Containers on the Environment and Climate Change.” The conference was held as part of Environment and Climate Month at the National Library.
In his address, Al-Khawaldeh emphasized the importance of such national initiatives, which strengthen partnerships among community institutions and contribute to raising awareness among future generations about environmental issues and climate change. He commended the Jordanian Environment Society for its efforts and its pioneering role in implementing programs aimed at protecting the environment and promoting volunteer work.
He also praised the significant efforts made by schools, teachers, and students, which reflected the advanced level of awareness and positive values among young people in addressing contemporary environmental challenges.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordanian Environment Society and head of the press conference, Ali Freihat, stressed in his speech the importance of organizing this specialized national conference for the third consecutive year. He noted that it serves as a scientific and media platform that contributes to enhancing environmental awareness and highlighting issues related to the dangers of plastic containers and their repercussions on the environment and climate change.
Freihat indicated that the Society is committed to continuing its efforts. Its national mission is conveyed through the implementation of environmental programs and initiatives, and the involvement of various educational and youth institutions in environmental protection efforts. He emphasized that the conference's success was the result of extensive cooperation and partnerships between official and non-governmental bodies and supporters.
He also expressed his appreciation to the schools participating in the competition, as well as to the sponsors and judges: Dr. Sharifa Hind Muhammad Jassim, Dr. Alia Al-Jarrah, Eng. Adel Abu Zar, and Eng. Ihab Al-Manasir, whose support was instrumental in the conference's success.
The ceremony, which was supported, collaborated with, and included the participation of several companies and institutions—including the Zaha Cultural Center, the General Union of Charitable Societies, the gold sponsor Bright Environment for Sustainability and Plastic Industries, the silver sponsor Jordan Kuwait Bank and Nebras Energy Company, and the bronze sponsors Zalatimo Sweets and Dar Al-Dawa—also featured the National Library Department and Al-Oula Insurance. Zaid Zaboun, a member of the General Union's administrative board and head of the Jerash Union, was also present. The ceremony showcased the most prominent initiatives and projects presented by the participating schools, along with research papers that featured innovative solutions for reducing and recycling plastic containers. Several sponsoring companies shared their experiences in this field.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Al-Khawaldeh distributed shields, trophies, and certificates to the winning and participating schools, as well as to a number of supporters and sponsors.
